How do I get to the nitty gritty?
James is a way better storyteller than me. I literally have pretended I’ve read a book that James is telling me about. I’ve said, “I read this book. Let me tell you all about it,” and I didn’t read the book. So, ask James about the farm in Iowa, LJ’s organic farm. That shit was crazy.
Who’s your favorite band?
I often answer Radiohead. But Pavement is one of my favorite bands. Phish is definitely one of my favorite bands.

What’s the weirdest gig you ever had?
That’s a great question. We played this gig in Jamaica, Roots Bamboo, that’s a brothel. You can go and get a prostitute and a little room to have sex with them in. We were opening for Yellowman. It was a legitimate show, just at a brothel.
Some of the drives to get to gigs, too. We left Floydfest, we really wanted to stay- we left at six in the morning and it was terrible. We had to drive to Jersey to do this 1:00 festival. We show up and the festival’s cancelled. It’s pouring rain. There’s like 15 kids there.
Are you ever tired?
The answer is, yes. I am sometimes tired, after a long run, and even after a short run, driving home. Sometimes it catches up and hits you. Very, very rarely behind the drum set am I like, “I’m too tired to do this.” You can do that nine-hour drive, to that stupid festival in Jersey, and once you’re playing, and there’s one person out there shaking it, you’re good.
