Rock Your Gypsy Soul Harvest Festival ~ Green Oaks Creek Farm & Retreat ~ BIG TREE Set To Play Nov. 6th, 2010

A festival of local music, art, food, and friends

Come celebrate the 3rd Annual Harvest Festival at Green Oaks Creek Farm! This community-wide event features live music, organic farm fresh food, raffle prizes and activities for all ages.

Angelica-Music is proud to be working with Green Oaks Creek Organic Farm and Retreat Center Center in Pescadero, CA to put on the Third Annual Harvest Festival, held each year on the farm grounds. This year, Nadia Schuessler is spearheading the event after last year’s ringleader, Airielle Love, a resident and farmer on the grounds, has stepped down, staying on as advisor and publicist. The daylong event includes music all day, likely to be run by a bicycle-powered PA system and homemade food made from the farm’s crops.

One of the first bands to sign up is none other than Angelica-Music’s favorite dual-coast groups, Big Tree, on tour behind their latest EP, Home (Here). In fact, Big Tree has several dates lined up for the winter, so make sure in check their schedule for when they're playing near you.

This year’s theme, Rock Your Gypsy Soul, was selected by Nadia in order to keep “options for costumes open.” The theme is taken from “Into the Mystic,” a song by Van Morrison.

“I wanted a theme that involved this idea of traveling through, as most of us are,” said Nadia.

She and I are currently wwoofing at Green Oaks Creek. The “World Wide Organization of Organic Farming” is a network of small farms that allow travelers to exchange time working on the farm for room and board. We’ve been learning how to farm and literally enjoying the fruits of our labor. Every business, farm, and individual involved with wwoofing has a deep sense of community and we’ve been glad to introduce them to Angelica-Music. Green Oaks Creek Farm is part of C.R.A.F.T., offering apprenticeships and volunteer positions on farms across the U.S. in order to keep small local farming relevant and thriving.

Airielle not only helped locate local musicians to play, but also designed this year’s poster. She’s an incredible artist and has been as instrumental in the event as Nadia has.

Green Oaks Creek, run by Steph Jennings and Paul Pfluke, is completely organic, selling at both the Palo Alto and Alameda local markets twice a week. This year’s farm manager, Eytan Navah, and his wife, Reva, are Nadia’s friends and our connection to getting to spend October on the farm. Serendipitously, our time here coincides with the festival.

Angelica-Music, working together with the farm, is showcasing local musicians and artists, giving them a space to share their talent, sell their merchandise, meet each other, and connect with the farming community, which, all over the Bay Area holds many public events with music and art involved. Keep your eye on the coast to harvest hop this October and November.
